While receiving the necessary treatments and therapy sessions is the main focus for any patient at HealthBridge St. Louis, proven evidence shows that improving a patient’s emotional health directly impacts the recovery process. That’s why we strive to provide engaging activities that stimulate the minds of our residents and bring a smile to their faces.
Arts and crafts, entertainment and special meals offer a way for patients to feel more comfortable in their rehabilitation environment.
We also strive to offer activities that help patients practice motor skills and sharpen mental acuity.
Currently, activities at HealthBridge St. Louis involve:
- Facilitating video chats and window visits with loved ones
- Arts and crafts, such as wreath-making
- Adult coloring pages
- Word search puzzles
- Room visits from our snack cart
- Exercises, such as balloon volleyball and stretching to music
- Bingo, with patients participating from their rooms while we call from the hallway
- Celebrating special days, such as Elvis’ birthday and national “I Love Lucy” day, with special foods and projects
- Board games
- Nail care/manicures
Engaging With the St. Louis Community
Unfortunately, the current situation with COVID-19 doesn’t allow for the same level of community engagement for which we normally strive. Once the pandemic is behind us, we plan on once again taking patients out to go bowling, eat at restaurants, go shopping or see the Christmas lights throughout St. Louis. We look forward to returning to this programming when the situation allows us to do so safely.
Despite the pandemic, we have been enjoying meals from various local restaurants by ordering take-out and delivering meals to each patient’s room.
